Lot of (3) 1964 Proof Kennedy Silver Half Dollar, Accented Hair, Transitional &. There are three varieties of the 1964 Kennedy Proof Half Dollar. The first version that was produced was the Accentuated Hair variety. Jackie did not like the hair so she requested that replacement dies be made that would tone down the hair. This is the most rare of the the three. Estimated only 1-3% of these proof coins are of this variety. This variety is distinguished also on the reverse by the rays behind the eagle's head not cutting through the stars. The rays are broken where the stars intersect. On the regular issue the rays are much stronger and actually run over the stars. This brings us to the Transitional variety which is not nearly as well known. After the obverse dies were changed to diminish the hair the same reverse dies were used for a period of time which exhibit the broken rays. It is unknown how many of this variety were produced but they are way less common than the regular issue.

If you are a collector of the Kennedy series you need all three to be complete. All three coins exhibit deep mirrors.
