RARE 1972-P BU/AU KENNEDY HALF DOLLAR STRUCK ON WRONG STOCK ERROR 10.4G &####129321.. This 1972 Philadelphia Kennedy half dollar is an example of the incrediblely rare mint error known as struck on wrong stock. You can find this on a few different years and denominations during the 1970's. It's characterized by the extreme weakness in the strike of the devices around the rim most noticeably.
That's why you see that weakness through the date and "Liberty" on the obverse as well as the "IGWT" motto and "Half Dollar" on the reverse. 2nd, the thickness of the coin is noticeably thinner than other Kennedy half dollars. And finally, the weight of the coin will be drastically lighter than the usual and outside of mint tolerances therefore causing the sound to be a much higher pitch when you drop it or ping it.
